My Song 02:38
My Song I want to sing my song…I want to see you smile I want to sing a song for you…I want to see you smile I want to sing a song for you…Won’t you sing along? Won’t you sing my song? I want to sing my song…I want to see you smile I want to sing a song for you…I want to see you smile I want to sing a song for you…Won’t you sing along? Won’t you sing my song? I want to feel some sun…Shining down on me I want to feel the sunshine…erase this misery I want to feel some sunshine…and some sweet harmony Won’t you sing with me? Na na na… Na na na… I want to dance and twirl…I want to shake my head I want to dance and twirl and raise my arms and shake my head I want to spin in circles…yeah, yeah, yeah Won’t you sing my song? I want to sing my song…I want to see you smile I want to sing a song for you…I want to see you smile I want to sing a song for you…Won’t you sing along? Won’t you sing my song?

Transparency 03:09
Transparency Where’s your heart when you’re staring at the dark And you’ve got no place to call your own There’s no place like home…No, there’s no place like home To make you feel all alone Transparency you’ve got nothing on me That I did not supply Transparency more than you can see Mama, please don’t cry Work until the job is done, hide behind the setting sun Substance, class, and style Two days is long enough to disappoint the ones you love Sit back and think for awhile Transparency you’ve got nothing on me That I did not supply Transparency more than you can see Mama, please don’t cry Transparency you’ve got nothing on me That I did not supply Transparency more than you can see Mama, please don’t cry Mama, please don’t cry Where’s your heart when you’re staring at the dark And you’ve got no place to call your own

Someday Soon Someday soon you’re gonna feel happiness No more hate and bitterness Only love and tenderness Someday soon you’re gonna solve the mystery And see things differently Embrace brand new beliefs…Someday soon You can fill a heart up with a smile Trust yourself to try it for awhile Someday soon love’s gonna fill up every room Wash away the fear and gloom Burst alive like summer’s bloom Someday soon it’s gonna be a brand new day With a sweet smelling bouquet So you can shed away malaise…Someday soon Trust yourself to strike a brand new chord One day you won’t miss me anymore Someday soon you’re gonna feel just like new And everything you do Will cleanse away the blue… Someday soon Someday soon Someday soon Someday soon Someday soon

Where Are You Now? Two weeks of waiting in the El Pueblo Motel Except for the game show hosts and a bible, I’m all by myself Game show hosts and a bible White bread and cheese is all I’ve eaten for seven days What I wouldn’t give to go out for a bucket of beer and a steak A bucket of beer and a steak I miss seeing kids playing across the street in the park Only so many times I can read this damn postcard again Where are you now? Where are you now, my friend? You put me on a southbound bus and said you’d see me soon The note you sent read, “Meet me at the El Pueblo and get a room.” El Pueblo and get a room Maybe this is truly it and the devil’s out to meet us Think I’ll walk myself to the mart and get a can of peaches Where are you now? Where are you now, my friend? You said, just another score and we could turn these frowns around But one more grift, one more town’s gonna turn me upside down I can’t take me another day of living in this skin Where are you now? Where are you now, my friend? Two weeks of waiting in the El Pueblo Motel The cockroach in the bathroom sink is my own living hell My own living hell I think it’s time that I packed my bag to leave this bungalow Climb into a taxi cab and I’m on the road again Where are you now? Where are you now, my friend?

Careful What You Do The sun is shining brightly, shining on you Smiling on your garden flowers, and they’re all in bloom Maybe mama wasn’t crazy, be careful what you do Be careful what you do Be careful what you do There’s a heavy burden weighing, will we make it through Where are all the happy faces, they all withdrew Better mind your distance darling, be careful what you do Be careful what you do Be careful what you do Talk amongst yourselves now people Talk amongst yourselves Walk along the fence now honey Walk along the fence I’m not feeling like myself… Is there a doctor present? I’m not feeling like myself… Careful what you wish for darling, it all might come true Is that boy beyond the fence a bother, is he making you blue Is this your fate now honey, is it absolute Cover up your face and worry, in every pursuit Careful what you wish for darling, be careful what you do Be careful what you do Be careful what you do

It’s Still Me Just when I thought that every piece was finally straight inside my head And all of the loose ends in my life were cinched up tightly once again I’m asking questions, double-guessing, repossessing all those insecurities That used to eat at me, tell me can this really be Some days I put on clothes I used to wear a long time ago Then it’s a new dress or anybody’s guess at all But it’s still me It’s still me inside this skin you see It’s me Yeah, it’s still me People think they’ve figured out who I am without a doubt They stare at me and still can’t see I’m more than the person they think about Some days I’m dressing up in fragile, temporary make-up Other times I’m tough as nails pounded in a wall But it’s still me It’s still me inside this skin you see It’s me Yeah, it’s still me There’s a million fractured elements that don’t add up to me Just when I thought I had every code and key to every bit of me A brand new face appears and volunteers to tip up the galaxy Some days I walk along to a drumbeat from a different song Then I flick my wrist and just like this everything has changed… But it’s still me It’s still me inside this skin you see It’s me Yeah, it’s still me

about

Talk Amongst Yourselves is the second release by Alex Blum and the Roadside Quartet. The songs were written during the pandemic in the spring of 2020 and recorded throughout the summer, except for My Song and Transparency which were written in 2019.
The band assembled together, wearing masks of course, to record the basic tracks...Ted - drums, Douglas - bass, Peter - guitar, Patrick – electric piano, and Alex - guide vocal. The members then recorded all the overdubs at home and sent Peter the tracks to be mixed.
This was the case for all the tracks, except Careful What You Do. Careful began with Patrick recording guitars, harmonium, and a guide vocal. Douglas then recorded the bass and percussion; and Alex did her vocals. It was then sent to Ted to play some drums before ending up with Peter to mix.
A bit different than the first EP, Barefoot in a Parking Lot, in which all the overdubs were recorded in the same studio spaces with the entire band present for most.
The bonus tracks included on the CD, Warren Zevon’s Splendid Isolation and And No One Would Care, were home recorded and released as singles during the pandemic as well.
